Hello everyone, welcome to Cryptid Corner. Today we will be exploring the Kappa, who hails from the ponds and rivers of Japan.

Early stories of the Kappa showed them as more of a monster that would drown people and animals, later stories started to depict them a mischievous and it is said they will give you a wonder medicine recipe or preform labor for you. Kappas also have a love of sumo wrestling and cucumber... so if your looking to take a Kappa out on a date you have a good place to start. However you may want to reconsider dating a Kappa as they have a habit of stealing the shirikodama. A mythical organ from the human anus.

The Kappas appearance is generally described as greenish in colour with sometimes hints of yellow and red in certain areas. Roughly humanoid in shape and sized similarly to a child they have beaked or pointed mouths with webbed hands and feet. They also have a carabiner on their back similar to a turtle. Kappas also have a head dish. Which is a bowl like indentation on their head which retains water while walking on land, if that water is spilled the Kappa will be weakened or could possibly die. Kappa are very polite, and that being said, if you bow to them they will bow back, spilling their water. Now the most unique feature to the Kappa is probably its arms that are joined through the torso meaning if you pull one arm it will lengthen the arm on one side and shorten the arm on the other. Kappas are also described as being slimy and have a fishy smell.

If you’re ever near the ponds or river of Japan be wary of the dangerous and wacky Kappa. So carry a cucumber or they may just try to drag you under.
