Materials: 

#4 medium weight yarn, approx 20 yards

E 3.5mm hook

Needle for sewing in ends and attaching pieces

                                     

Stitch Guide: 

sl: slip stitch

ch: chain

sk: skip

st: stitch

bb: back bump

yo: yarn over

mc: main colour

ac: accent colour

blo: back loop only

flo: front loop only

sc: single crochet

sc incr: single crochet increase

sc dec: single crochet decrease

dc: double crochet

edc: extended double crochet

tc: triple crochet

                                                                        

Special Instructions: I suggest using the invisible dec wherever a dec is called for


Gauge is not important with this item, changing the hook or yarn size will simply change the size of the finished piece, just make sure you use the appropriate size hook for your yarn


Extended Double Crochet: yo, insert hook, yo, draw up a loop, yo, pull through one loop leaving the other loops on the hook, yo, pull through all loops

Comb:


Start with a long tail to sew to the hat


Ch 24


Row 1: 1 sl in the 2nd ch from the hook, 21 sc, 1 sl, turn (23)


Row 2: ch 1, 1 sl, 1 sc, (1 dc + 1 tc + 1 dc in the next st, 2 sl) x7 (37)


Finish off and weave in ends



Beak:


Ch 7


Row 1: 1 sl in the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 edc, 1 tc (5)


Finish off with a long tail to sew to the hat



Assembly:


Comb: position in the middle of the hat so it is even and straight all the way back, and attach


Beak: position directly at the front so it hands off and is centred and attach
