Materials: 

#4 medium weight yarn, approx 10 yards

Polyfibre fill

E 3.5mm hook for worsted weight

Needle for sewing in ends and attaching pieces

                  

Stitch Guide: 

sl: slip stitch

ch: chain

sk: skip

st: stitch

bb: back bump

yo: yarn over

mc: main colour

ac: accent colour

blo: back loop only

flo: front loop only

sc: single crochet

sc incr: single crochet increase

sc dec: single crochet decrease

hdc: half double crochet

hdc incr: half double crochet increase

                        

Special Instructions: I suggest using the invisible dec wherever a dec is called for

Gauge is not important with this item, changing the hook or yarn size will simply change the size of the finished piece, just make sure you use the appropriate size hook for your yarn

Top Hat:


In mc


Start with a magic circle, or ch 3 with a sl to join, however you feel comfortable starting on the round


Round 1: 6 sc in circle (6)


Round 2: 1 sc incr, repeat around (12)


Round 3: 1 sc, 1 sc incr, repeat around (18)


Round 4: 2 sc, 1 sc incr, repeat around (24)


Round 5: 3 sc, 1 sc incr, repeat around (30)


Round 6: 4 sc, 1 sc incr, repeat around (36)


Round 7: flo: 5 sc, 1 sc incr, repeat around (42)


*** Special Instructions for round 8 ***


When working the sc: work into the blo on this round, and the loop left from round 7



When working the dec st: insert hook into the next two blo, and then the loop from round 7



Round 8: 5 sc, 1 sc dec, repeat around (36)


Round 9 – 14: 1 sc, repeat around (36)


Change to ac


Round 15 – 16: 1 sc, repeat around (36)


Finish off ac with a long tail to sew to the head


Change to mc


Round 17: flo: 1 hdc, 1 hdc incr, repeat around, sl to join (54)


Round 18: ch 1, (1 hdc) x54, sl to join (54)


Finish off and weave in ends



Assembly:


Lightly stuff and attach where desired
