Special Instructions: I suggest using the invisible dec wherever it says in the pattern to do a dec, it helps with the overall look of the item

When making these, I use the same amount of stitches, no matter the size of the brim you're making, whether smaller or larger, it changes slightly the placement along the brim, being either a little closer together or further apart, but in my experience the hat body itself shape will not change based on the brim. If you would however like to change the amount of stitches, this hat is done in repeats of 7

if you want a slouchier longer hat, you can repeat rounds 2-4 as many times as you like until it is the size you want before moving on to round 26

turning ch never counts as a st

mp: mini puff st: yo, insert hook into st, yo, pull up a loop repeat to x3, when you have 7 loops on the hook, yo and pull through all 7 loops, sl to close

standard hat brim measurements are 18-20” on the brim measured unstretched, I stick right in the middle, it will give you a couple of inches when stretched out, measure it unstretched to between the 18-20” as desired!

hdc in the 3rd loop: when you look at the back of a hdc st, you will see an extra loop in behind the two loops on top, that is where you will place your stitch

Brim:

ch 10

Row 1: 1 hdc in the 3rd ch from hook, 1 hdc in the next 7, turn (8)

Row 2 – 39: (or until the brim measures approximately 19”unstretched) ch 1, 1 hdc in the blo,

                  repeat across, turn (8)

fold so the two ends are touching, and sl through both sides to join (8)

turn your project right side out so the seam is facing inwards

Body:

Round 1: working into the side of the stitches: ch 1, 70 hdc, join with a sl (70)

Round 2: ch 1, 1 mini puff, sk 1 st, repeat until the end, join with a sl (35)

Round 3: ch1, 1 sc in the top of the mini puff, working into the round below, you will work 1 hdc in the skipped st from that round, repeat around, join with a sl (70)

Round 4: ch 1, 1 sc, repeat around, join with a sl (70)

Round 5 – 25: repeat rounds 2 - 4

Round 26: 5 hdc, 1 hdc dec, repeat around, sl to join (60)

Round 27: 4 hdc, 1 hdc dec, repeat around, sl to join (50)

Round 28: 3 hdc, 1 hdc dec, repeat around, sl to join (40)

Round 29: 2 hdc, 1 hdc dec, repeat around, sl to join (30)

Round 30: 1 hdc, 1 hdc dec, repeat around, sl to join (20)

Round 31: 1 hdc dec, repeat around (10)

Round 32: 1 hdc dec, repeat around (5)

finish off and weave in ends

attach pompom to the top centre
