Materials:
#4 medium weight yarn, approx 20 yards
Polyfibre fill
E 3.5mm hook
Needle for sewing in ends and attaching pieces
14/16mm safety eye
Stitch Guide:
sl: slip stitch
ch: chain
sk: skip
st: stitch
bb: back bump
yo: yarn over
mc: main colour
ac: accent colour
blo: back loop only
flo: front loop only
sc: single crochet
sc incr: single crochet increase
sc dec: single crochet decrease
Special Instructions:
I suggest using the invisible dec wherever a dec is called for
Gauge is not important with this item, changing the hook or yarn size will simply change the size of the finished piece, just make sure you use the appropriate size hook for your yarn

Hanging Eye:
In white
Start with a magic circle, or ch 3 with a sl to join, however you feel comfortable starting on the round
Stuff as you go
Round 1: 6 sc in the circle, sl to join (6)
Round 2: 1 sc incr, repeat around (12)
Round 3: 1 sc, 1 sc incr, repeat around (18)
Round 4 – 7: 1 sc, repeat around (18)
Optional: Insert safety eye into round 1 (the magic circle)
Round 8: 1 sc dec, repeat around (9)
Change to red
Round 9: 1 sc, 4 sc dec (5)
Round 10: 2 sc dec, working your hook through both stitches as pictured below, make one more
sc to close the hole (3)

Ch 6, attach directly to the hat as pictured below with a sl and weave in ends

If you did not use a safety eye, cut a piece of black yarn approx 5” to make the X detail on the eye
X Eye:
Ch 11
Row 1: 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and the next 4 (5)
Row 2: ch 6, 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and the next 4, 1 sl in the last sc from row 1 (5)
Row 3: repeat row 2
Row 4: working into the remaining ch from the first ch 11: 4 sc, 1 sc + 1 sl in the last ch (6)
Finish off with a long tail to attach to the hat

Assembly:
X Eye: position on the opposite side of where you placed the hanging eye and attach
