Materials: #4 worsted weight yarn, approx 200 yards
Polyfibre fill
G 4mm hook (gauge is not important in this item, if you wish to use a smaller hook, or larger hook this will simply change the size of the finished product)
Needle for sewing in ends and attaching pieces
Stitch Guide: sc: single crochet
sc incr: single crochet increase
sc dec: single crochet decrease
sl: slip stitch ch: chain
blo: back loop only
Special Instructions: I suggest using the invisible dec wherever it says in the pattern to do a dec, it helps with the overall look of the item, and helps to reduce stuffing showing through on those rows/rounds. The ears as written here are the same as I have pictured on my work, there is a modification done by one of the testers that I have written out, and I have made available as a FREE add on modification.
Arms: (make 2)
Start with a magic circle, or ch 3 with a sl to join, however you feel comfortable starting on the round
Stuff arms lightly as you go, stop stuffing around round 24 leaving the last few unfilled

Here you will stuff and fasten off the first leg, leaving a bit of a tail, when you attach the two legs together it will leave a small hole which you will use this tail to close up. Make your second leg, and do NOT fasten this one off, instead proceed to the next set of instructions to attach:
Round 19: (on second leg) ch 3, hold to first leg, 1 sc in the first st, then each of the remaining 17 st on that leg, 1 sc in the back bump of each ch 3, then sc into each of the 18 st on the second leg, 1 sc into each of the front loops of the ch 3 (42)

The Hopkinsville Goblin
Ear Modification by Sian Ross

When I first designed my version of The Hopkinsville Goblin, I noticed how the ears tended to curl a little, and weren't very stable, because of their size. I had plans to go back and add some kind of a modification to them to stop that, but while it was being tested, one of my testers, the infinitely talented Sian Ross, came to me after she had noticed the same problem. As we were discussing different ideas, it was decided between us that doubling them, and crocheting around the whole thing might be one of the best possibilities. I remarked that my main concern would be the definition on the outer edges, so she said that she would try it out for me, (as I was neck deep in my next design at the time), and see how that would work, and make sure the definition stayed with the ridging.
So here is her work on modifying those ears I designed, I wrote out everything that she did, and as you can see by these pictures, it works perfectly, and gives the ears a squishiness that is just awesome. This I have made available as a free modification add on for the original design, included as a separate file.
Thank you very much Sian!
xoxo, Lizzie
Ears: (make 4)
These ears are doubled, so you will make the first ear as per the instructions in the main pattern, when you make the second ear, you will not finish it off, instead you will continue on to these instructions:
Row 17: * hold the second ear to the first ear so the edges match up (if it makes it easier you can pin them together to ensure they stay lined up as you work), sl into the first ch and play our st marker there
1 sc in each st along the top, when you get to the end, ch 1, turn your work so the slanted
bumpy edge is what you're working on:
*2 sc in the side of the bump, ch 1, 1 sc in the 2 st on the bottom, sl to the ch 1 on the ear *
repeat * to * 8x to the last bump, ch 1, 2 sc in the side, ch 1, sc along the bottom, when you
get to the edge you will be sewing on to the head, you can leave this open and just sew
through the flaps, or sl along it to the top and join with a sl to that first sl

* sunflower and eye modifications created by Sian as well, and not included in this mod file
